MP for South Dayi, Rockson Dafeamekpor, has said it is baffling that the government has instructed the current Nation Builders Corp (NABCo) trainees to stay at their posts.
According to him, there was no budgetary allocation for the extension NABCo beneficiaries in the 2021 budget that was presented by the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta.
The opposition MP said the programme’s original nature was to exit trainees after three years so that the same opportunity will be given to other people to also benefit from it.
"So with this simple analysis: how is the government going to sustain the numbers that they have directed now for them to stay on? So if those huge numbers are being asked to stay on, where are the funds that will be used to pay them?” he quizzed.
Recently, the government was criticised for ordering NABCo trainees to embark on a two-week leave.
However, in a surprise move, a press statement issued by the NABCo headquarters and dated November 15, 2021, directed all trainees of the programme to remain at their post until further notice.
Speaking on Good Morning Ghana, the South Dayi legislator said there are currently no budgetary allocations for the trainees that have been told to remain at their posts.
He insists that the funds available is only meant for trainees working within the time frame and also for the next batch of trainees that will be admitted in 2022.

Rockson Dafeamekpor indicated that government will be in crisis if they ask the current NABCo trainees to remain at their posts until a permanent solution is found.
He made these comments on Tuesday, November 16, 2021.
On Tuesday, May 1, 2018, Nana Akufo-Addo launched the Nation Builders Corp (NABCo), an initiative that is aimed at solving the unemployment situation in the country.
The programme is supposed to absorb half of the enrolled number of people into the working sector after three years.
