The government has rescinded an earlier decision to send beneficiaries of the Nation Builders Corps (NABCo) home for a mandatory two-week break.

In a new statement issued by the headquarters of the employment scheme, NABCo trainees have been asked to stay at post despite ending their three-year stint at various government agencies.

"Following a high-level stakeholder meeting with the lead NABCo module implementation partners (MIPs) led by His Excellency the Vice-president of the Republic of Ghana and the Honourable Chief of Staff, all NABCo trainees are required to remain at post.

“In line with the exit preparation after your three years on the scheme, all NABCo trainees will remain at post pending permanent arrangements”.

“The NABCo Secretariat expects trainees to continue to discharge their duties diligently and professionally at their various workplaces while the scheme and the MIPs work toward a smooth final transition”.

“A new cohort of NABCo trainees will be recruited next year,” the statement explained.

Two weeks ago, government received bashing for directing that all trainees proceed on a two-week break.

The government explained at the time that the mandatory leave “has become necessary for Management in consultation with the National NABCO secretariat to plan and strategize on retaining trainees for the services of the Authority.”

Many saw that directive to mean that government could not sustain the programme.

NABCo was introduced by the government three years ago in a bid to close the vast unemployment gap in the country.
