Minister of Special Development Initiatives, Mavis Hawa Koomson, has said she is “ready to resign” over a budget scandal involving her ministry.

Speaking to journalist in Parliament, Mavis Hawa Koomson said she will do the honorable thing of resigning if that’s what will please her critics.

The minority in Parliament have called for the head of Mavis Hawa Koomson over what they say is gross incompetence in the allocation of GH¢800,000 for the development of a website in the ministry’s 2018 budget.

Despite the explanation by the minister that the said allocation for the development of a website was an oversight and the correct figure was GH¢80,000, the Minority spokesperson on finance Cassiel Ato Forson said she must resign and her statement was merely a reaction to the public outcry and that amount was indeed GH¢800,000.

“What we considered at the committee is GH¢800,000, certainly not GH¢80,000. Is the Minister telling me that she is such an incompetent lady to the extent that she couldn’t read and understand her own document?” he said.
