President John Dramani has denied claims by some political parties that the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has collapsed.

Addressing party faithfuls in Salaga in the East Gonja district, President Mahama maintained the NHIS is still vibrant and serving the health needs of Ghanaians.

“Our political opponents say NHIS has collapsed, let me give you a few figures, NHIS in 2008 saw 9 million visitations to hospitals thus out-patients visitations, last year, 2015 the NHIS has grown in outpatient visitation from 9 million to 29 million. How can that be a scheme that has collapsed”, he added.

He indicated “ in 2008 the total amount of money that was paid to facilities for providing treatment to NHIS patient was one hundred and eighty-three million, last year, 2015 the total amount of money paid that was given to the facilities was more than one billion Ghana cedis”.
