The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced revised guidelines to govern its internal elections, introducing key changes aimed at strengthening transparency, inclusiveness, and internal democracy.
In a statement issued on April 8, 2026, and signed by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the National Executive Committee (NEC), acting on behalf of the National Council, approved the updated guidelines following a comprehensive review of existing procedures.
The party explained that the revisions were necessitated by practical challenges encountered during ongoing registration and electoral processes.

Among the key changes is the introduction of both in-person voting and the use of an official NPP e-voting platform for elections at various levels, including polling station, electoral area, branch, and chapter.
The guidelines also outline clear eligibility criteria, stating that only members who have been active in the party for at least two years can contest or vote in certain internal elections.
At the polling station level, provisions have been made for the suspension of elections in disputed areas, particularly where concerns arise over voter registration or access to the membership register. Such cases will be referred to higher party structures for resolution.

The document further details the structure and composition of executives at different levels. At the branch level, positions to be contested include Chairperson, Vice Chairpersons, Secretary, Treasurer, Organiser, Women’s Organiser, Youth Organiser, Nasara Organiser, and Communications Officer, among others.
In addition to elected roles, provisions have been made for the appointment of officers such as Research, Electoral Affairs, and other support roles to strengthen party operations.

The guidelines also require polling station officers seeking to contest in higher-level elections to resign from their current positions before filing nominations.
As part of efforts to streamline the electoral process, the party has defined the number of polling stations and electoral areas to be covered by election committees, while also clarifying rules governing cluster and special polling stations.

Furthermore, the NPP announced the formation of an ad-hoc committee tasked with developing a comprehensive manual for party officers. The committee, chaired by Peter Mac Manu, includes notable members such as Osei Bonsu Amoah, Henry Nana Boakye, and Haruna Mohammed, among others.
The party has urged all stakeholders to familiarise themselves with the revised guidelines and adhere strictly to them, stressing that the changes are intended to ensure a smooth, credible, and inclusive electoral process across all levels.
The NPP reaffirmed its commitment to upholding its values and strengthening internal structures through collaboration and adherence to due process.
