The North Tongu Member of Parliament Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has declared his support for any public march against the construction of the proposed 450-seater new Parliamentary chamber.

The construction of the new chamber has come under serious attack with civil society groups, including MPs and Ghanaians kicking against it.

According to the MP, the construction of this new chamber is needless.

The construction of the new 450 seater chamber is expected to begin before the end of 2019. Renowned Ghanaian architect, David Frank Adjaye, designed the model and took members of the House through it last Friday.

Also, the Speaker of the House, Prof Mike Ocquaye said Parliament will not tolerate the project if it costs beyond $200 million.

In a Facebook post, Ablakwa indicated that he is not in support of the building of the 450 seater project in Parliament. Adding to that he said the project will damage the image of the Ghanaian Parliament.

''I declare my full and unflinching support for any public march against the new chamber complex project.

My colleagues who are defending this project should not underestimate the wrath of the people and the harm they are causing to the image of the Ghanaian Parliament.

I would continue to insist that this project is needless.''

Meanwhile, the Africa Centre for Parliamentary Affairs (ACEPA) observed that constructing new parliamentary should not be a priority for Ghana.
