Disqualified presidential candidate of the Great Consolidated Peoples Party (GCPP), Dr Henry Herbert Lartey has expressed his dissatisfaction with the Electoral Commission (EC) over his disqualification.

According to him, the disqualification was all part of the EC's efforts to embarrass the party and not because they flouted any regulations.

The EC on Monday announced the disqualification of Dr Lartey and eleven other aspirants including Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom of the Progressive Peoples Party (PPP), Hassan Ayariga of the All Peoples Congress (APC), Edward Mahama of the Peoples National Convention (PNC), Madam Akua Donkor of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), and Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings of the National Democratic Party (NDP) the December 7 presidential elections for various anomalies on their nomination forms which the EC said breached CI 94, the constitutional instrument regulating the conduct of the upcoming polls.

But speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Dr Lartey stated that the anomalies the EC cited were errors which could have been sorted out if they had been alerted.

"The work involved in completing the over 400-page document was voluminous and coupled with the three-week deadline, it was not easy so the EC should have just given us time to correct the errors",  he explained.

He subsequently asked the EC to rescind the disqualification decision and give them the opportunity to correct the mistakes.

"If they fail to do so by Friday, we would have no choice than going to court for redress", he added while Lawyer for the party, Maurice Ampaw looked on.
