The Deputy Director of Elections of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Rashid Tanko Computer, has said that the party will insist that the Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, Michael Okyere Baafi, resigns his position.

According to him, if Mr Baafi does not resign voluntarily, the NDC will petition the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin for the MP’s seat to be declared vacant.

“We are going to Michael Okyere Baafi’s constituency. He has apologised, but we are not accepting his apology. He must resign. If he doesn’t resign, Ghanaians will not take politicians seriously.

We must be serious. They must hold us to our words. Whatever comes out of my mouth, they must take it seriously. I can’t just stand here and make allegations, say certain things, and then within 24 hours apologise,” Tanko-Computer said.

He was reacting to a statement by the New Juaben South MP.

“If NPP loses this Akwatia by-election, I will resign as MP, mark my words,” he is quoted to have said in an interview on August 31, 2025.

After the NDC’s candidate emerged as the winner, Mr Baafi is reported to have apologised for his assertion.

Tanko Computer responded that, “he said it himself, so he must resign. He must resign so that we have a by-election in his constituency.”
