Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has described the National Sports Authority (NSA) decision to charge football clubs GHC20,000 per match for the usage of the Accra Sports Stadium as unfortunate, exorbitant and unacceptable.

The National Sports Authority (NSA) this week announced charges for the usage of the Accra Sports Stadium ahead of the upcoming 2020/21 football season.

According to the NSA, this has been grouped into three categories (A, B and C) and the new charges will run throughout the Coronavirus period which is subject to review at the appropriate time.

Per a release from the NSA signed by its Director-General Professor Peter Twumasi, matches involving Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak and the National teams including Black Stars are category A matches and gate proceeds would be shared using the usual formula but matches involving Asante Kotoko or Hearts of Oak and other clubs classified as category B will see the home team paying GH¢20,000.00 per a game.

In the category C will be matches involving not Asante Kotoko or Hearts of Oak and that the home team will pay to the NSA GH¢15,000.00 per a game for using the Accra Sports Stadium.

The GFA President took to Twitter to describe the new charges as “unfortunate and exorbitant”.

"I have read in the public space a statement from the NSA on new stadia user facility charges. I will say this is unfortunate and our GFA will engage the NSA on this exorbitant and unacceptable fees!!!"

However, the NSA has justified its decision for the new charges. The Public Relations Officer of the NSA Charles Amofa described the amount as a realistic charge.

"Looking at what goes into every match ... management thought it wise to come out with realistic charges now that the sitting capacity has been reduced."

Meanwhile, Hearts of Oak, Asante Kotoko, Inter Allies, Legon Cities, Great Olympics and Accra City Lions are hoping to use the Accra Sports Stadium for the 2020/21 season.
