John Mahama congratulates RTU, makes GHC50k donation to team

Former President John Mahama has donated GHC50,000 to support Real Tamale United's (RTU) preparation for the upcoming 2021/22 season.

The Tamale giants are making a return to elite football after 8 years in Division One.

"I want to take this opportunity to congratulate RTU for qualifying to the Premier League and to say that we are all supporters of RTU. As the Regional Minister said let us come together to support the pride of the North," John Mahama said.

"Between myself and the NDC Group in parliament led Haruna Iddrisu we are going to make a donation of GHC50,000 to you to prepare for the Premier League. We will be following and help you so that RTU reclaims its former glory," he added.

RTU were officially crowned as winners of the Division One League Zone One on Sunday, August 1, 2021 after finishing the season on top of the league table.

The Zone One table toppers received a trophy as well as a cheque of GHc50,000 from the Ghana Football Association(GFA).

Players and Officials of the Club also received forty medals for their impressive performance during the 2020/21 league season.

The giants of the Northern Region have joined Bibiani Goldstars and Accra Lions who have also qualified to the Ghana Premier League from Zone 2 and three respectively.

Meanwhile, the GFA have confirmed that 2021/22 Ghana Premier League will kick off on the weekend of Friday, October 29 to Monday, November 1, 2021 across all the nine Premier League centres.

The Premier League will run until Sunday, June 19, 2022.
