Former Ghana international Laryea Kingston has been appointed as the head coach of Uganda’s junior national football teams.
The former Black Stars winger will oversee the development and management of Uganda’s U17 and U20 national teams, as part of efforts by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) to strengthen youth football structures and talent development.
Kingston’s appointment comes months after his resignation as coach of Ghana’s U17 side, the Black Starlets, following the team’s third-place finish at the 2024 WAFU B U17 Championship.
FUFA said Kingston’s experience and commitment to nurturing young players made him an ideal choice for the role, as the federation seeks to build a sustainable pipeline for future national team stars.
Kingston was officially unveiled on Wednesday, October 8, by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA).
“FUFA CEO Edgar Watson has today unveiled Laryea Kingston as the Head coach of all Uganda National Men Football Junior Teams for the next 2 years,” a statement on the federation’s social media page read.
“Laryea is a Ghanaian with UEFA A and CAF B coaching license holder.
FUFA also announced that Brian Ssenyondo will continue as coach of the U-17 side until the upcoming FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar, which kicks off next month. Ssenyondo had earlier informed the federation that this tournament would be his final assignment at that level, though he remains open to future national team roles.
“Brian Ssenyondo will remain the head coach of the U17 team ahead of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, due next month.
“He had earlier informed FUFA this would be his final assignment at the U17 level, but would be available for consideration at other levels of National teams.”
