Local-based players leave for pre-AFCON camping in Doha (photos)

The 5 local-based players named in Milovan Rajevac's Black Stars provisional squad have left the shores of the country for the pre-AFCON camping in Doha, Qatar.

The 5 players namely Philemon Baffour (Dreams FC), Abdul Fatawu Issahaku (Dreams FC), Maxwell Abbey Quaye (Great Olympics) David Abagna (RTU) and Richard Attah (Accra Hearts of Oak) are joining their mattes in Doha to sharpen the rough edges ahead of the 33rd edition of the AFCON.

The Black Stars will play three international friendly matches in Qatar to give Coach Milovan Rajevac the opportunity to assess his squad for the Tournament.

The team will wrap up their test matches against African Champions Algeria on Wednesday, January 5, 2022.

The Black Stars will depart Doha for Yaoundé on Friday, January 7, 2022 to take on the rest of Africa at the AFCON 2021 in Cameroon.

Black Stars head coach Milovan Rajevac has until Friday, December 30, 2021 to submit his final squad for the tournament.

Meanwhile, The World Leagues Forum (WLF) has written to global soccer governing body FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to say they will not release players for the AFCON until January 3.

This means they likes of Thomas Partey, Daniel Amartey and Jordan Ayew will join the Black Stars camp at a later date.

Ghana who are paired with Morocco, Gabon and Comoros in Group C will open their campaign with a game against the Atlas Lions of Morocco on January 10 before playing the Panthers of Gabon and the Coelacanths of Comoros on January 14 and 18 respectively.

The Black Stars – four-time African champions are aiming to end the 40-year wait for the Africa Cup of Nations trophy having last won the tournament in Libya in 1982.
