The Vice President of the Ghana Football Association George Afriyie has revealed that several people within the football fraternity tried to opposed his appointment as the FA vice.

In an interview on GTV on Wednesday, March 28, 2018, the Vice President in a sober voice said several stakeholders did not want Kwesi Nyantakyi to appoint him as vice and even sent messages of death threats to the GFA President.

“Someone sent a text to Nyantakyi which said, ‘If you appoint George Afriyie as your vice, you will die within two years.'”

"The president showed the message to a few people but he never showed it to me, but the good people he showed to told him I could never hurt a fly.

Since that incident, every time I go on my knees to pray, I ask God to protect Nyantakyi.” George said, voice breaking, and tears streaming down his face.

Per the GFA Statutes in accordance with Article 30.3, the president has the right to appoint his vice. So Kwesi Nyantakyi exercised his right by naming George Afriyie as second-in-command in 2015.
