Mandatory challenger Teofimo Lopez has vowed to stop IBF lightweight champion Richard Commey in their showdown at the Madison Square Garden on December 14.
According to the Honduran-American boxer, facing Richard Commey at the Madison Square Garden is a place where he has always dreamt of winning his first world title.
Speaking to boxing scene, Lopez says despite the odds favouring the Ghanaian champion he will put in a masterpiece performance to claim the title in order to shut up his critics.
“I’m finally back at Madison Square Garden, the place where I always wanted to win my first world title,†Lopez said.
“I believe this fight will shut up all of the critics and prove to everyone that I back up my talking in the ring. I respect Commey as a champion, but when we’re in that ring, it’s going to be lights out for him. Come December 14, I am officially taking over the lightweight division.â€
Mounting the ring against Lopez fight will be Commey's second defence since claiming the vacant title over Isa Chaniev in February.
He stopped Ray Beltran in the 8th round in his first title defence on June 28.Â
Teofimo Lopez-Richard Commey fight will be part of an ESPN televised tripleheader, with Terence Crawford defending his WBO title in the main event against Egis Kavaliauskas.
Meanwhile, Ukranian boxer Lomachenko after defeating Luke Campbell has called for the winner of the Commey-Lopez to unify his three belts (WBC, WBA and WBO).
He wants to face either of them in the first quarter of 2020 with all four of the world titles at stake.
