Tokyo 2020: Pray for our athletes - Ofori Atta makes brief remark about Team Ghana

 Ghana's Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta is urging Ghanaians to pray for national athletes at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Three of Ghana's 14 athletes have been kicked out of the games. They are Shakul Samed in boxing, Kwadwo Anani who is a Judoka, and also Abeiku Jackson who despite winning his 100m butterfly heat with a time of 53.39s failed to qualify for the semifinals by just 2 seconds.

Jackson however set a new Ghanaian record in the 100m butterfly swimming event.

Here is what the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta said on the floor of parliament during the mid-year budget review: "Mr. Speaker, just seven days ago, fourteen (14) Ghanaians began a journey to raise high the flag of Ghana at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Their success is our success so we should continue to keep them in our thoughts and prayers."

Meanwhile, Two Ghanaian female athletes are in action late today in swimming and triple jump.

Nakia Eke will be competing in the triple jump qualification event at 10:05 am whilst Unilez Takyi will be involved in the women's 50m freestyle swimming event at 10:17 am.   

Black Bombers captain Sulemanu Tetteh is preparing for his round of 16 fight against Yosvany Veitía of Cuba on Saturday, July 31.

Also, Samuel Takyi progressed to the quarterfinals in the featherweight division will fight Colombia’s Ceiber Ávila on Sunday, August 1.

Black Bombers coach Ofori Asare is confident of a win.

Ghana is been represented by fourteen athletes at the 2020 Olympic Games which begun on Friday, July 24 and ends on August 8.

The athletes will participate in six different sports, which are, boxing, swimming, judo, weightlifting, athletics and triple jump
