Over the past one month, he has been at the fore-front of the resistance against President Trump’s travel ban by corporate leaders but the latest announcement to hand over the leadership of the transportation network giant - Uber after merely six months on the job, was “completely unexpected”.

Many believe Mr. Jones was upset about the recruitment of a new chief operating officer without including him as a candidate for the role.

On the contrary, technology news site Recode disclosed that, he quit the company’s leadership because of Uber's continued battle with sexism and sexual harassment scandal.

Speaking to a source on his decision to leave the firm, Mr. Jones said "beliefs and approach to leadership that have guided my career are inconsistent with what I saw and experienced at Uber".

Commenting on the development, Uber said "We want to thank Jeff for his six months at the company and wish him all the best."

However, it is alleged that the announcement which takes effect immediately, has left the firm in a state of confusion as to what course of action to take that would mitigate the impact of ex-Uber boss’ abrupt resignation.

Earlier, the company’s co-founder and chief executive Travis Kalanick, after being caught arguing with a driver over falling rates conceded he needed "leadership help" and later went on to announce that the firm was in need for a chief operating officer (COO), a position which is believed would have undermined the firm’s President.

In an email to his staff yesterday (Sunday), Mr. Kalanick said: "After we announced our intention to hire a COO, Jeff came to the tough decision that he doesn't see his future at Uber.

"It is unfortunate that this was announced through the press, but I thought it was important to send all of you an email before providing comment publicly."

Furthermore, there is a wide speculation that this development is an indication of even more stunning changes within the world’s leading transportation network company - Uber.
