Energy Minister, Peter Amewu has cautioned the Power Distribution Services (PDS) that government will not hesitate to take over the operations of ECG again if the company fail to meet the Key Performance Indicators.

Speaking at a ceremony to hand over ECG to PDS, Peter Amewu said: "If for some reasons PDS which we expect to come in to address some of these concerns will be repeating some of these challenges then I don't see the rationale for us gathering here, Ghanaians will, therefore, be given the opportunity to do it, if the loses remain 25%, the power theft will continue to increase, the technical drive to change equipment will remain unchanged then it's better we take over our equipment and run it at the same level."

"But if your intervention into the drive is to reduce some of these challenges and make the value of power consumption affordable to the consumer and make Ghana industrialise as a result of cheaper power production and make the country an enclave of power distributions within the sub-region, then, of course, you are worth a private sector participation in Ghana," he added.

PDS are the new owners and directors of ECG and expected to turnaround the operations of the company to make it profitable. In addition, the new management will improve access to electricity while cutting down on waste in the system to block all leakages that drain the financials of ECG.

One major huddle that PDS will have to overcome is how to clear all debts owed ECG by the government through its state agencies and departments, as well as Ministries.
