GRA arrests eleven business owners for tax evasion

Owners of eleven small scale businesses within the Makola and Okaishie Tax jurisdiction have been arrested by the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) for failing to issue Value Added Tax (VAT) invoices.

The arrests followed a Test purchase exercise conducted by the Special Revenue Mobilization Task Force of the GRA in collaboration with the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI) to investigate the issuance of VAT invoices by VAT registered business in Accra.

The 11 businesses were found to have acted contrary to Section 41 of the Value Added Tax Act 2013, Act 870 by issuing fake VAT invoices for taxable goods sold.

The firms include, Cotton Road Company, Star Moon International Limited, LEHENKI Company Limited, Torshie Trading, New Lily Company Limited, Jin Hui International Limited, and Fang Fang Company Limited. The rest are Dynamic Trading Limited, Nua Feng, Hong-Qi Limited and SabJane Enterprise.

Coordinator of the Task Force, Henry Brandford Sam said the culprits would be prosecuted to serve as deterrent to other taxpayers.
