On sale today for travel on or after Nov. 19, Delta is adding a “Basic” experience to the Delta Comfort product in very select markets.

Read the Q&A below for more on Delta Comfort Basic and how it compares to other travel experiences on Delta.

QWhat is Delta Comfort Basic?

A: Delta Comfort Basic is a new travel experience within the Delta Comfort product line, designed for customers who want the extra legroom and premium onboard experience of Delta Comfort—but at a lower price point, and with a few familiar restrictions.

This new option provides customers with more choice to prioritize how they want to travel. With Delta Comfort Basic, you’ll enjoy the same onboard perks as Delta Comfort Classic or Extra—including more legroom, dedicated overhead bin space, Zone 3 boarding, and complimentary wine, beer and spirits on most flights. Seats are assigned after check-in, so if selecting a seat is a priority for your travel, or if you need more flexibility or refundability, then the Classic or Extra options might better suit your needs.  Also, like Delta Main Basic, a Comfort Basic fare is not eligible for upgrades.

Delta Comfort Basic gives you a way to invest in a more premium journey, without needing the greater flexibility and benefits provided by higher-tier Comfort fares. See the chart below for a full comparison of Delta Comfort Basic to Comfort Classic and Comfort Extra.

Each option offers a different balance of benefits and flexibility, so you can choose the experience that matches what you value most.

Q: How does Delta Comfort Basic differ from Delta Main Basic?

A: While both fares assign seats after check-in, are not eligible for upgrades and are subject to change or cancel fees, Delta Comfort Basic offers several premium benefits not available with Main Basic:

  • More legroom
  • Zone 3 boarding (vs. Zone 8 for Main Basic)
  • Eligibility for Delta Sky Club access (with valid entry credentials such as a Delta Sky Club membership or a qualifying credit card)
  • Ability to earn Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQDs) and miles with SkyMiles® (2 miles per dollar spent, excluding taxes and fees)
  • Complimentary wine, beer and spirits on most flights
  • Dedicated overhead bin space

As a reminder, Delta Main Basic does not include these premium features and is not eligible for Delta Sky Club access or mileage earning.

Q: Is Delta Comfort Basic available on all flights?

A: No; Delta Comfort Basic is currently available only on very select Delta-marketed and operated domestic itineraries. If you don’t see Delta Comfort Basic as an option during booking, it means it’s not currently available for that flight or route.

Q: Why aren’t Delta Comfort Basic bookings available until Nov. 19?

A: The 14-day advance purchase booking window allows time for our operational teams to prepare and ensure they are able to deliver on the new experience. It also gives you, the customer, extra time to understand the Delta Comfort Basic experience and know what to expect before your flight.

Q: Can I book Delta Comfort Basic with miles?

A: No, Delta Comfort Basic is only available for revenue tickets and not for Award bookings (e.g., for purchase with miles). However, Delta Main Basic is available for Award tickets.
