Outgoing CEO of Vodafone Ghana, Yolanda Cuba has disclosed that the telecommunications company will on March 19, 2019, launch their 4G spectrum.

Speaking to Citi News, she said, as against their initial date, the second quarter of 2019, things are in place for Vodafone to launch the 4G spectrum to provide quality voice and data services to their customers on March 19.

According to her, Vodafone has invested in about 200 cell sites to deliver the service.

"Prior to the acquisition of the 4G network, we indicated to you that customers will be able to get the service by the second quarter of the year, I’m happy to announce that there has been a massive support from the technical team and all members at Vodafone hence we will launch commercial operations of the 4G services next week 19th of March this year 2019. This will mean an improved network quality for customers and all our services".

Vodafone will be the second telecommunications company to operate on the 4G spectrum after MTN which secured the LTE license in 2015 at $67.5 million.

The sale of the Spectrum is in line with Section 58 of Electronic Communications Act 2008, Act 775 on Spectrum Management which allows the NCA’s to assign the Frequency.

4G is the fourth generation of mobile phone communications standards which allows for high data transfer rates providing faster, and reliable internet access both on mobile phones and computers.

Although only two telecommunications companies will be operating on the 4G, industry watchers are urging the NCA to work towards the acquisition of a 5G in line with the World technology evolution.
