An Accra district court has freed eight suspects among 22 persons accused of killing Major Maxwell Mahama.
They were acquitted and discharged by the court on Tuesday, 19 December.
The Attorney General’s Department said there is no ample evidence against Yaw Annor, Philip Badu, Kwame Adjei, Solomon Sackey, Vivian Asahene, Anthony Amegah, Solomon Kojo Fordjour and Ebenezer Appiah, for which they should be prosecuted for the crime.
Major Mahama was lynched on 29 May 2017 by residents of Denkyira-Obuasi on suspicion that he was an armed robber after some residents spotted a gun on him during his routine morning jogging.

Evidence was, however, established against the 14 others standing trial.
The presiding judge Worlanyo Kotoku has set 11 January for committal proceedings to begin.
The eight freed suspects shed tears of joy in court after their acquittal and discharge.
An Accra Magistrate Court following a request from the Attorney general in July, discharged thirteen of the suspects standing trial for alleged involvement in the lynching of the late military officer.
