Dr Hassan Ayariga Leader/Presidential candidate of The All People’s Congress has sued the Ga East Municipal Assembly for illegal demolition of his Property at Haatso, Accra.

According to Mr Ayariga, some police officers led by ASP Sarpong, as well as land guards from Abokobi, and executives of the governing New Patriotic Party and the Abokobi Municipal Assembly, the walls of the project were demolished with reason that he had no building permit, he as well alleges that the police and land guards assaulted his workers.

Mr Ayariga is, therefore, seeking damages to a tune of one million two hundred and thirty-nine Ghana cedis(GH₵1,239,500) as the cost of the building materials and labour used for the construction of the demolished fence wall, together with an interest of one Million Two Hundred and Thirty nine thousand five hundred Ghana cedis(GHs1,239,500) at the prevailing banking rate till the date of final payment.

He is as well seeking damages for trespass, destruction of the wall, and cost for legal fees.

Mr Ayariga has alleged that in June 2018, government officials approached him to ask of his building permit, he, however, issued a cheque to the officers for payment of the building permit. However, after some time the cheque was returned with reason that they prefered a cash payment rather than the cheque. However, in July 2018, they returned and undertook a demolition of portions of the fence wall of his property.
