The Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources responsible for Mining, Mr George Mireku Duker, has urged the Ghana Geological Survey Authority (GGSA) to put together a 10-year comprehensive and strategic plan transformation of the Authority.
He gave this charge during a working visit to the GGSA on Friday in Accra.
He stated that transformative policy would serve as a blueprint to reposition the GGSA as a ‘cash cow’ for the government.
He expressed confidence in the management led by Mr Isaac Kuuwan Mwinbelle to implement policies and initiatives that would ensure that the fortunes of the GGSA take an upward trajectory.
He asked the GGSA to position itself as the first point of contact for investors seeking information on Ghana’s mining industry and its potential.
“When someone is moving into the country as an investor to mine, I believe the first point of call should be the GGSA. I want the Director-General to add his vision to what his predecessors achieved. The fundamentals are clear and we need to build on them,
“I believe the government is ready to resource this institution to move to the pedestal we want. Let’s have a master plan. If you could develop a 10-year masterplan to cut the path for all of us to follow what the GGSA we want to see in ten years. It is very important and key for this institution,” he added.
On his part, the Director-General of the GGSA, Mr Isaac Kuuwan Mwinbelle, highlighted certain initiatives undertaken to enhance the GGSA.
He noted that the GGSA has been working with the Ghana National Petroleum Commission (GNPC) to conduct on-shore oil exploration in various sections of the nation.
Mr Mwinbelle also said the GGSA has been hosting regional workshops to educate media practitioners on the GGSA’s mandate and seismic events to build its connection with the media and Ghanaians.
