Fly Zipline Ghana, the company behind the drone medical services in Ghana will this month begin a test flight of its medical drones before full operation.
The initial testing and diagnostic flights of the company will start from its first distribution centre in Omenako in the Eastern region of Ghana.
The service will be expected to make on-demand, emergency deliveries of life-saving medications to over 2,000 health facilities across the country.
Last year parliament gave approval for the use of the service to aid healthcare delivery in the country.
Speaking to Citi FM, Head of system integration at Zipline, Daniel Manfo said the test is needed to ascertain their readiness.
"we need to run some test drive with the drones to condition them to make sure that everything is fine and we can deliver on our mandate."
The drone deal which was approved on December 11, 2018, will see drones used to distribute essential drugs and blood to health facilities across the country.
The system will also be employed to deliver other items such as urgent letters, examination papers and election materials such as ballot papers, according to government communication on the deal.
This makes Ghana the only country in the West African sub-region currently which will be using the technology to improve health service delivery.
