Owners of over fifty houses earmarked for demolition at Mpoase in Dansoman Glefe are pleading with government to extend the time set for the exercise.

The houses which are on portions of lands that lead to the Mpoase dumpsite according to the Accra Metropolitan Assembly are delaying government's emergency evacuation exercise.

However, residents, whose houses have been earmarked for demolition are calling on government to give them some more time to vacate their homes and find accommodation elsewhere.

Some residents claim they were not aware of the pending exercise on the grounds because they were not in town at the time the AMA did the demarcations.

"I don't have any place to stay... if only the government can help. Looking at the short notice, they must at least give us some more time to organize ourselves and find another place to settle.", a resident lamented.

The government gave encroachers on potions of lands that lead to a dump site at Mpoase, in Dansoman Glefe, Friday, to evacuate or face eviction.

A Deputy Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Michael Dzato, who made the announcement, said this was to allow contractors move to site to start the emergency evacuation and covering of the refuse.

The Mpoase dumpsite is one of the six sites that government is seeking to close down in the Greater Accra Region.
