President Akufo-Addo to break silence on CSE saga this weekend

President Akufo-Addo is expected to break his silence on the controversial Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) this weekend.

According to the Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the President will put the controversy to bed, he is expected to meet faith-based organizations on Saturday.

The President will address fears that LGBT teachings will soon find a place in Ghana's education, he is expected to bring clarity on the government's position on the matter.

The introduction of the CSE has been met with fierce resistance from parents, civil societies and religious leaders insisting the introduction of the programme is not in line with the country's values and culture.

The Minority in parliament today in a press conference vowed to kick against the CSE should the government make a move to implement it.

The Minister for Education Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh categorically stated that they have not included the CSE in the basic school curriculum for 2019.

However, the Minister says Ghana will get to a point of adopting the Comprehensive Sexuality Education, CSE programme for basic schools but it will be culturally sensitive.

Some members of the Minority including Okudzeto Ablakwa and MP for Ningo Prampram Sam George says the government has already received $22m from the Swedish government to role out the CSE programme.

Ever since the document of the Comprehensive Sexual Education (CSE) surfaced, it has received a lot of backlash from a section of the public.

The Comprehensive Sexual Education programme is expected to equip pupils to know and experience their sexuality.

The first is the document titled “Guidelines for Comprehensive Sexuality Education in Ghana” with the coat of arms embossed on the back of the document adorned with the national colours- red, gold and green.

The document has what it called age-appropriate information on sexual reproductive health for kids between ages four to 24.

There is also a separate document with graphic details of sexual organs drawn in them. That document titled “Know it, Own it, Live It...Comprehensive Sexuality Education Manual” is being championed by the Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana (PPAG) and other international organisations.

That document also provides details of what a child will be taught in school, this time with very detailed and graphic symbols about the male and female private parts.

The documents have triggered an intense public controversy, with many lambasting government and accusing it of smuggling concepts that alien to Ghanaian children.
