The first students of the Faculty of Law at the Wisconsin International University College, graduated in Accra on Friday.

The event saw 70 law students graduating as the pioneers of the faculty with 34 graduating with second class upper honors while 36 of the students were placed in the second class lower division.

In a very colorful ceremony to commemorate the milestone achieved by the school, graduates were commended for their efforts in ensuring that they set the tone for others to follow in the pursuit of the course.

In his speech,Chancellor of the University, Justice Isaac Duose said the University currently has five schools but Law is one of the fastest-growing faculties with strong interest particularly from mature students.

He urged the graduates to ensure that the integrity of the profession is regained by conducting themselves in a manner that would not further drag the name of the profession in the mud.

"In the past year, much of the trust and confidence vested in the legal profession in Ghana has been shaken with reports of misconduct by some who occupied the highest offices in the justice system,"he stated.

He added that, "through the wrongdoing of a few, the justice system at large was brought into disrepute and many has lost trust in the system"

However he believes that the new graduates will uphold the true principles of the law which includes, integrity, impartiality, fairness and justice.

He urged them to ensure they write their names in the annals of legal history by being the people who cannot be bought or sold.

Justice Duose said the graduates must seek not to just uphold the law, but also to change the law wherever it oppresses or unfairly disenfranchises.

The event also saw Ms Mildred Acheampong adjudged the Best Overall Law Student.

The Bachelor of Law(LLB) programme of the University was established in 2014 and affiliated to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology(KNUST).
