The Member of Parliament for Adaklu Constituency and Ranking Member of the Roads and Transport Committee, Kwame Agbodza has described the claims of road contract inflation by Senior Minister Yaw Osafo Marfo as vague and lacking merit.

According to him, the senior minister cannot just bastardise engineers, quantity surveyors at the road and transport ministry without backing his claims with evidence.

He made the comment following Mr Yaw Osafo Maafo's lamentation of road contract inflation by some contractors in the road sector.

“The cost of construction of roads should conform to international standards. We have a situation where the cost per kilometre of our road network is higher than international standards even when you work out the material aspect. This calls for a very close look at the matter", he said at a forum in Accra.

But speaking on the matter on Accra-based radio station discussion, the MP said " This is the first time I'm hearing a member of the government saying they are investigating government officials but their target is civil servants or engineers at the road and highway ministries."

Mr Agbodza explained all road contracts in the country are under different kinds of contracts and expressed surprise the senior minister will make such claims when there are variables that dictate the prices of a particular road construction.

He said such complaints were needless and that if the minister has evidence he should channel it through the appropriate authorities for the necessary action to be taken.

“What is preventing this government from telling us which particular road contract has been inflated, who is the contractor and consultant. Why can’t they do this simple thing and spare this country the agony of every day waking up and telling us contracts have been inflated", he stated?
