Former Trade and Industry, Ekow Spio-Garbrah has denied claims that he is preparing to contest as flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC).

Earlier reports suggested that Spio-Grabrah intends to battle it out with other persons who have expressed interest to lead the party to the 2020 elections.

According to Kwaku Ampah, a man who identified himself as a spokesperson for Spio-Garbrah, his boss is ready to contest the position.

But speaking to Citi News, Spio-Garbrah denied that Kwaku Ampa is his spokesperson, stressing the comment were based on his personal judgement and does not reflect his(Spio-Garbrah) intentions.

"Kwaku Ampah is only a member of my fan club and the statement only represents the views of the club and not Spio-Garbrah".

According to the former Minister, the party is currently discussing issues that led to their defeat in the 2016 elections and the way forward.

He is therefore more interested in working with party executives to strengthen the organization of elections at the district and regional levels before considering the flagbearership positions.

"When the party invites those who are interested in leading the party, I will at that point, in consultations with supporters, family and friends know what to do but till then, I have not made any decision yet," he stated.

He continued that when the time comes, he would personally communicate whatever decision he makes.
