The Ashanti Regional Sports Director Joshua Mensah says they are poised to put a ban on Saturday football matches at the Baba Yara Stadium to make way for social activities like funerals and weddings to bring in cash for his outfit to use in maintaining the facility.

The Director lamented that the facility should be used to generate revenue which will go a long way to maintain the edifice.

"Let me be honest with you, I want that the Stadium to be reserved for social activities on Saturdays because we don't make enough money from the matches to maintain the facility"

"If we are not careful, we will one day be met with news of the closure of the Stadium for lack of proper maintenance'" he told the media in a presser in the Ashanti Region.

The National Sports Authority has found it difficult to maintain stadiums in the country due to the lack of finance generated from football matches.

Baba Yara Stadium is the home of Kotoko

Mensah indicated that his decision to reserve the place for social activities has the backing of the Director General of the NSA, Robert Sarfo Mensah.
