President Nana Akufo-Addo has praised the Sports Writers Association of Ghana(SWAG) for the successful organization of the 42nd Awards Night which came off at the Banquet Hall of the State House on Saturday night.
The President who was the Special Guest of Honour at the event said, SWAG had over the years ensured a very successful event and must be commended.
"The consistency in the organization to ensure that sportsmen and women are awarded for their efforts every year is highly commendable".
He added that, rewarding excellence goes a long way to motivating winners to do more while encouraging others to put up their best to be recognized.
He praised winners in past awards including Abedi Pele, Azumah Nelson, Ike Quartey and Asamoah Gyan for their efforts.
The President also hailed winners on the night, especially Anthony Baffoe(Sports Personality of the Year) for lifting high the flag of Ghana at the world stage.
Akufo-Addo encouraged upcoming athletes to strive for excellence in all endevours and called on corporate entities to assist in the growth of sports.
President of SWAG, Kwabena Yeboah aexpressed appreciation to President Nana Addo for gracing the event.
"This shows government's support to sports development and SWAG would do its best to ensure that the highest level of standards as far as sports journalism is maintained,"he stated.
Mr Yeboah praised corporate entities who supported the event as well as members of SWAG for their roles in ensuring a very remarkable Awards Night.
