The Obuasi Municipal Assembly has ordered the indefinite closure of Obuasi Secondary Technical School following a violent incident in which the school’s headmaster was allegedly attacked by a mob of students.

According to reports, the unrest began after some students alleged that the headmaster had been seen burying a foetus in a nearby bush.

The students further claimed the incident was linked to allegations that the foetus resulted from an alleged abortion involving a female student. The claims have not been independently verified, and the headmaster has not publicly responded to the allegations.

Police have since arrested six students in connection with the alleged assault as investigations continue.

During the disturbance, the students reportedly vandalised three staff bungalows, damaged vehicles and destroyed other property on the school campus.

The Municipal Assembly said the indefinite closure is a precautionary measure to safeguard students, teaching and non-teaching staff, while preventing further disturbances.

The condition of the headmaster has not been officially disclosed. However, he is reported to be receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital after sustaining injuries in the attack.
