The most recurrent causes of road traffic accidents in Ghana include indiscipline on our roads, over-loading, fatigue driving, drunk driving, and over-speeding. We have gathered the top crashes in 2018.

The loss of innocent lives through road traffic accidents in Ghana is alarming. Road accidents affecting young and productive age is normally caused by the negligence of some drivers when plying roads and also when safety rules are not adhered to.


2018 recorded a number of road accidents. PrimeNewsGhana has gathered top crashes which occured this year.


1.Accident: Tipper truck crashes into ambulance killing 4

Earlier this year, in the Ahanta West District of the Western Region, an accident occured involving an ambulance and truck which claimed the lives of at least 4 persons.

2.NDC delegates involved in an accident

Some delegates of the NDC attending its 9th National Delegates Congress at the Trade Fair Centre in Accra were involved in an accident around the El-WAK stadium. The affected, numbering 15, were transported from Kingsbi in Achimota to the Trade Fair Centre. All injured persons were rushed to Ridge Hospital to be treated.

3.Nsawam -Ofankor accident: 5 cars involved, 3 dead 

Three persons were feared dead with several others injured in a bloody accident involving five cars on the Nsawam-Ofankor road in the Greater Accra Region.

The accident reportedly occurred at around 4:30 am after a speeding tipper truck crashed into 4 vehicles including a school bus and an STC bus.

4.10 feared dead in a bus crash on Accra-Kumasi road

10 people were confirmed dead at Mankron near Suhum on the Accra -Kumasi highway in a horrifying crash involving two buses at Mankron near Suhum on the Accra-Kumasi Highway. The accident occured when two buses collided head-on when one tried to overtake.

5.Accident: Several injured as bus crash into a pole on Accra-Kumasi road

An accident occured very close to Linda Dor restaurant on the Accra -Kumasi highway in the Eastern Region. A white Sprinter bus with registration number AS 5579-17 was involved in an accident on the Accra-Kumasi road. According to Prime News Sources, no death was recorded but rather several injuries.

6. 6 in a critical condition as two cars crash at Potsin junction

At least,6 were in critical condition whilst several others were injured after two buses collided head-on at Potsin junction on the Accra-Cape Coast highway. 

According to the police, the accident occurred near an area called Mustapha Plus when a white Mercedes-Benz Sprinter bus was travelling from Ashanti Bekwai, made an illegal overtaking and collided with another Mercedes-Benz Sprinter bus travelling from Accra to Mankessim.

7. Road crash leaves six dead, others injured

Six passengers were feared dead with several injured after a sprinter bus lost control and crashed into a concrete at Taifa Junction in Accra.

According to an eyewitness, some passengers were reportedly trapped in the bus for a while but personnel from the Ghana Fire Service and Police Motor and Traffic Department (MTTD) arrived promptly at the scene and cut through the mangled vehicle to free them.
